Pahlish: Hey Let’s Go!

Pahlish, PR, Regular release

*Disclosure: PR samples- I received these polishes free of charge in exchange for photography.*

Release: 27 November 2020

16 polishes (includes 2 gift with purchase shades)

A megacollection inspired by Studio Ghibli films

Kiki

swatch pahlish kiki 2

Kiki features a very dark blue base with crushed gold flakes. The blue is quite warm-toned, almost taking on a strange tinge of green in some lights. I think only in brighter lights will the blue tone be visible, otherwise it looks like a plain black. The blue notes are very distinct in the bottle, but unfortunately the polish dries down much darker than it appears in the bottle.

Catbus

swatch pahlish catbus 2

This color is highly unusual and quite difficult to photograph, so please read my written description carefully. Catbus features an undersaturated orange base with crushed gold flakes. This base shade I think fits orange best in the ROYGBIV spectrum, but it’s an orange that leans a bit more red (rather than yellow). It’s also one of those shades that looks fairly different in the bottle than on the nail. In the bottle it looks quite muted and almost peachy, but once applied it dries down much more saturated.

Nausicaa

swatch pahlish nausicaa 2

Nausicaa features a saturated, cool-toned green base with crushed gold flakes. Now, there’s a few colors I’ve learned to fear in my time as a swatcher. This bright yet cool shade of green is one that gives me nightmares. It consistently photographs way duller and flatter than it actually is in real life. It’s a cooler Christmas green shade. The official description is teal, but in my opinion this is absolutely green, just a cool-toned one. In the bottle it looks like it might be a green-leaning teal, but once it dries down on the nail, it’s undeniably green.

Arietty

swatch pahlish arietty 2

Arietty features a hot fuchsia base with crushed gold flakes. I think it’s neon, but I’m not entirely sure. It feels like a pink Barbie might wear, but it’s not a bubblegum pink, it’s a darker pink.

Jiji

swatch pahlish jiji 2

Jiji features a deep, warm purple base with crushed gold flakes. I adore darks, I adore purples, and so I adore this shade.

Witch of the Waste

swatch pahlish witch of the waste 2

Witch of the Waste features a warm medium purple base with holographic flakes. I think my top coat dulled the flakes a bit, but they do still flash some rainbows against the pretty base.

Ohmu

swatch pahlish ohmu 2

Ohmu features a lovely sky blue base with holographic flakes.ย  Again, the holo isn’t super intense, but there’s a nice twinkle against the blue base. There was just a tiny bit of patchiness at two coats, so I opted for a third to smooth everything out.

Ponyo

swatch pahlish ponyo 2

Ponyo is an interesting shade. The base color is actually quite blue-leaning, but there’s so much gold shimmer added that the overall shade is undeniably green. The shimmer also shifts green at an angle, and there’s a soft holographic effect to finish. The holo is really really pretty here. I’d say it’s a faint linear holo, and it kind of just softly frames the shimmer for a wash of holo that is an absolutely lovely accent for the strong shifting shimmer.

Howl’s Heart

swatch pahlish howl's heart 2

Howl’s Heart features a deep indigo jelly base with bright blue iridescent sparks and small gold flecks. What a unique stunner this one is! It is absolutely lush. I’m not always the biggest fan of iridescent and metallic elements mixed together in a polish, but the small sparks of blue with the gold dust create an undeniably opulent shade. If you like blues or dark shades, definitely consider this one.

Spirit of the Forest

swatch pahlish spirit of the forest 2

Spirit of the Forest features an undersaturated teal base with strong green/blue/purple shifting shimmer and matching iridescent flakes. This one is really magical in real life. The shimmer also has a sparkling quality that really pops in between the flakes, which themselves can shift almost pink at a far angle. Such a lovely, lovely shade.

Soot Sprites

swatch pahlish soot sprites 2

Soot Sprites features a sheer grey base with purple/pink/green shifting shimmer and holographic flakes. This is more of a grey holo polish that is accented with shimmer. The silver flakes throw some nice rainbows. It’s a nice take on a charcoal grey polish.

Calcifer

swatch pahlish calcifer 2

Calcifer is a rich red with strong red/gold shifting shimmer and scattered holo flakes. This shade of red is super Christmassy. It leans more berry than orange, which my skin tone is very thankful for. It really glows. This is a perfect holiday shade.

Toxic Jungle

swatch pahlish toxic jungle 2

Toxic Jungle features a green base with intense green/blue shifting shimmer and microflakes. The base color is surprisingly olive-toned, but it is overrun with bright shimmer. This is such a perfect shade of Christmas green. It’s incredibly vivid and jewel-toned. The highlight is of course how bright the green shimmer is, but it does have a subtle shift to blue at far angles.

It is important to give this one a good shake before application to smooth out the formula, and if you prefer thinner formulas you may want to add thinner. I used two thicker coats for opacity, and then one final thin coat to perfect the surface.

Chihiro

swatch pahlish chihiro 2

Chihiro features a sheer hot pink base with bright pink to gold shifting shimmer. Very bright, young, and feminine. The glowing effect builds in three coats. An impressive point– the shimmer doesn’t streak at all.

$50 GWP: Spirited Away

swatch pahlish spirited away 2

Spirited Away features a light cornflower blue base with crushed gold flakes. The base color is soft and dusty. On some screens the color may appear to have a vague purple-ish tinge, but there’s no purple at all. It’s a light, undersaturated blue color.

This polish is a free gift with any purchase of $50 or more during this sale. It will not be available for purchase, and it will not be available again in the future.

$80 GWP: Lady Eboshi

swatch pahlish lady eboshi 2

Lady Eboshi features a purple base with bright magenta/copper shifting shimmer and holographic flakes. It’s a rich and lively shade that I think would suit many.

This polish is a free gift with any purchase of $80 or more during this presale. It will not be available for purchase, and it will not be available again in the future. The original threshold was $100 but was lowered to $80 after customer feedback.
