12 polishes
A collection inspired by the eponymous book series
The Nevernight Chronicles are a fantasy book series Sarah got into over quarantine. It’s been a hot second since BKL’s done anything but shimmers, but this collection has a nice mix of finishes. Three of these polishes will only be available for a 24 hour period. Another four are UP polishes, and these four are the only ones that will be capped during the presale. I’m presenting them first:
‘Byss and Blood
‘Byss and Blood features a red-brown jelly base with red/green shifting OG UP. The official description of the base color is “rusty chocolate,” which maybe is not so appetizing but color-wise is absolutely spot-on. Overall the polish is a bit sheer, and at three coats I can catch a peek of my VNL at certain angles.
3 coats + top coat
When All is Blood
When All is Blood features a raspberry red base with red/green shifting OG UP. This polish…is SHOCKINGLY opaque. It’s almost a one-coater. The first stroke onto the first finger almost knocked me out. With that first coat, the pink notes of the base are clearly visible. I tried to do a thinner second coat to preserve the pinker base color, but unfortunately the red took over. If you can apply an even one coat and get the raspberry base color to show, that would be really incredible. As is, it’s a rich and regal red.
2 coats + top coat
Gravebone
Gravebone features a mushroom taupe base with green/blue shifting sibling UP. This is a BKL polish. As in, this is a polish only BKL could ever do. And it is magical. I adore kicked-up neutrals, the green/blue sibling UP is (in my opinion) the most exciting UP shift, this color is a fantastic neutral on me…everything about this shade is perfect. Undoubtedly among my favorites of this collection.
3 coats + top coat
Lady of Storms
Lady of Storms features a jewel green base loaded with green/blue shifting sibling UP. The opacity on this one is really great–two coats got me very close. There’s really so much UP packed into this polish, it sometimes felt almost glitterbomb-esque. It’s so lush and opulent…I almost felt like I had my nails replaced with emeralds. Why do people buy jewels when nail polish is just as stunning??
3 coats + top coat
Lady of Earth
Onto the non-UP polishes, which are no less stunning. Lady of Earth is a grass green linear holo. This shade of green is so lush and natural. The formula is a bit sheer on the first coat, which I think allows the holo to show through stronger. It applies beautifully and is completely opaque after two coats.
2 coats + top coat
Lady of Oceans
Lady of Oceans features a warm blue base with indigo/pink shifting shimmer. I was surprised by how sheer this one applied on the first coat, but the soft shimmer glow does need a sheer formula to shine. The shimmer here is magical. The glow is very soft and gentle, and of course it refuses to photograph properly. It’s prettier in real life.
3 coats + top coat
Lady of Flame
Lady of Flame features a red base with strong red/orange shifting shimmer. This is a true red that leans neither warm nor cool, although when the shimmer shifts orange it leans the overall coloring warmer. I didn’t have to look at the name to guess a flame inspiration. Bright, saturated, intense, and unapologetic shade.
2 coats + top coat
The Moon
The Moon is a soft linear holo accented with green/purple shifting shimmer. The holo is more of a soft and fuzzy effect as compared to something like the green Lady of Oceans above.
3 coats + top coat
Our Lady of Blessed Murder
Our Lady of Blessed Murder features a sheer black base with gold/green shifting ghost flakes and a blue/purple shifting magnetic effect. I’m showing this polish in 3 coats on its own and magnetized, 3 coats on its own unmagnetized, and 1 coat magnetized over black. It’s pretty sheer–even at three coats I could see my naked nail. I prefer the look of this polish with an undie. It’s a faster result (only magnetizing one coat) and the flakes pop more strongly.
3 coats + top coat -or- 1 coat over black + top coat
Black Friday LE: The Everseeing
The Everseeing features a dark base overrun with strong gold shimmer. The base is apparently black, but there’s so much shimmer the base color isn’t really visible. The gold has a soft shift to green. The formula covers in two thin coats, but be mindful of streaking.
This is the Black Friday exclusive polish. It will only be available for purchase on November 27, disappearing at 11:59pm Eastern.
2 coats + top coat
Small Business Saturday LE: Spiderkiller
Spiderkiller features a medium blue base overrun with gold/green shimmer. The intense shimmer leans the polish as a whole green. The shimmer is a microflake kind that has both a metallic and sparkly iridescent effect. Super super pretty.
This is the Small Business Saturday exclusive polish. It will only be available for purchase on November 28, disappearing at 11:59pm Eastern.
2 coats + top coat
Cyber Monday LE: Blood is All
Blood is All features a mauve purple base with pink/red/orange shifting shimmer. This polish has a sheerer formula. It’s a very classically beautiful shade, very easy and comfortable to wear.
This is the Cyber Monday exclusive polish. It will only be available for purchase on November 30, disappearing at 11:59pm Eastern.
3 coats + top coat
My favorites of this collection are Lady of Storms, Gravebone, Spiderkiller, and Blood is All.
The Nevernight Chronicles collection will be available on November 27 at noon Eastern. All polishes will be $11-13 except the UP polishes which will be $14. The UP polishes will be capped while the others will be available for unlimited pre-order. The three special shopping day polishes will only be available on their respective shopping day.
