The November 2020 PPU shop is bringing us polishes inspired by the glitz and glam of the red carpet.

Bee’s Knees: *GASP

Bee’s Knees was inspired by a meme generated by the Purple Wedding in Game of Thrones. This inspo KILLS me 🤣 *GASP features a dusty purple base (that appears more brown on the nail) with strong gold shimmer. The base color definitely looks purple in the bottle, but once applied it looks more like a soft brown, which is intriguing. The gold shimmer has a soft shift to green and is very strong.

Cupcake: She’s a Lady

Cupcake was inspired by Lady Gaga’s periwinkle dress at the Golden Globes for A Star is Born. She’s a Lady features a periwinkle blue base with orange/gold/green shifting shimmer. The relatively sheer base allows the shimmer to show through, but the blue base remains visible and is quite delicate.

Cupcake: VNL Blur

Cupcake is introducing a new product. VNL Blur is designed to be a semi-sheer polish for use under sheer polishes to blur nail lines. It can be used with or without base coat. I found this product to be much more opaque than I’d like for this kind of product. It kind of applies like a creme formula. Because it’s quite opaque, it does affect the  final appearance.

Dreamland: Fail Gloriously

Dreamland was inspired by Cate Blanchett at the 2018 Rome Film Fest. Fail Gloriously features a deep indigo base absolutely overwhelmed with pink/gold/green/blue shifting shimmer. This polish takes my breath away with how easily it shifts. I’ve been bored with traditional multichrome and shimmer shifts because…there’s only so many of them. But this one still blew me away. I took a bunch of untraditional photos because this polish demanded to be showcased properly. Undoubtedly this polish ranks among my favorite I’ve photographed in 2020.

And the formula is stunning. Even as a shimmer polish the formula covered completely and easily in two smooth, easy coats. Unbelievable.

Ethereal: Heavenly

Ethereal was inspired by Hailey Baldwin at the 2018 Met Gala. Heavenly features a light-medium grey base loaded with bright pink/red/gold shifting shimmer. Meagan says that the base grey has a minty green tint, but I personally didn’t see it. The shimmer is really bright and intense, as expected of a maker who does shimmers exceptionally well.

Femme Fatale: Dripping in Gold

Femme Fatale was inspired by Emily Blunt at the 2019 Met Gala. Dripping in Gold features a sheer base filled with gold holo glitters, pink/green shifting shimmer, iridescent flakes, and iridescent glitters. I just love the color combination of pink and gold. The soft gold base looks more like a nude on my skin, and I love pops of pink as a fun twist on nude-ish colors. It sparkles in direct light, and all the flakes and glitter come out to play in indirect light.

Glisten & Glow: Pink in the City

Glisten & Glow was inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker at the 2019 NYC Ballet Fashion Gala. Pink in the City features a bright fuchsia jelly base with blue/purple shifting iridescent flakes. It photographs a bit more hot pink, but it’s really a bit deeper and a little more purple-toned. It’s a true neon fuchsia color.

Great Lakes Lacquer: “BEY”OND

GLL was inspired by Beyonce at the 2015 Met Gala. ‘BEY’OND features linear holo, silver holo flakes, and pink/green shifting iridescent flakes. The overall color is a soft, cool-toned pink. The result is super sparkly and quite glamorous.

Kathleen & Co. : Rocking the Red Carpet

Kathleen & Co. was inspired by Cameron Diaz at the 2012 Academy Awards. Rocking the Red Carpet features a linear holo base with copper/gold shifting shimmer and matching UCC flakes. The flakes remind me of fall leaves.

Lilypad : Gracefully Glam

Lilypad was inspired by Tessa Thompson at the 2018 Emmy Awards. Gracefully Glam features a bright chartreuse-lime green base with linear holo, holo sparkle, and UCC flakes. The overall effect is super sparkly, more than I could photograph. I did have issues with color pulling up on my top coat brush, so be aware of potential staining.

MTK: Plunging

MTK was inspired by Olivia Wilde’s multiple plunging neckline looks. Plunging is a thermal that transitions between a bright fuchsia pink when warm and a deep purple when cold, with small iridescent flakes and shimmer. It’s a very feminine look. The shimmers and microflakes add nice dimension.

Nailed It!: La La Land

La La Land features a sheer pink base with iridescent flakes, red/green shifting shimmer, and scattered holo sparkle. The flakes have a beautiful shift to blue. The overall look is very delicate and fairy-tale-esque.

Pahlish: Vespertine

Pahlish was inspired by Björk’s swan dress at the 2001 Academy Awards. Vespertine features a sheer white base with silver holo microflakes, pink/green shimmer and microflakes, and scattered holo. The look is delicate and elegant.

Scofflaw: Glamormint

Scofflaw was inspired by Diane Kruger’s mint gown at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Glamormint features a pastel mint crelly base with red and grey glitters and blue glass fleck shimmer. The glitters flash beautifully in lower lighting. I can’t quite decide whether the base color leans more green or blue.
