Release: 17 July 2020
6 polishes
Scofflaw has released two previous volumes under the name “Tiki,” but this volume has been renamed to “Tropical.” Finch’s thoughtful explanation is here:
A note on how I swatched this collection: I moved faster than normal and used only one coat of top coat, and then I photographed very quickly. So the top coat is still wet and appears to smooth over all the glitters. However, as the top coat dries down the glitter does eat up the top coat, so you will need 2-3 coats of top coat for a finish like my photos. Sorry about that. I usually show Scofflaw polishes with 2 coats of top coat (like all glitter-heavy polishes), but I was in a bit of a rush for these.
Scofflaw has the cutest butt labels (bottom labels if you MUST insist) in the game. I haven’t been properly showing those, so this time I photographed those for your enjoyment ๐
A Nauti Parrot Pinched my Bum
A Nauti Parrot Pinched my Bum features a light green base with pink matte glitters and green metallic glitters. I love how metallic glitters catch and reflect light. Green and pink is such a great summer color combo.
2 coats + top coat
Bamboo Rocket to Paradise
Bamboo Rocket to Paradise features a very desaturated, greyed-out pinkish base with various glitters and glass sparkle. I don’t love how the base looks on my skin…maybe it would be better on cooler-toned skin. Now that I’m looking at the photos this polish has a bit of an Americana feel I think.
2 coats + top coat
This one has been renamed since I took these photos, so I’ve edited out the part of the name that’s been changed. I considered just not including this photo, but the graphics on the booty label are too cute not to showcase.
Citrus Cures Scurvy
Citrus Cures Scurvy features a pale green/yellow creme base with a matte glitter mix. This polish might show a little oversaturated on your screen; it has a pastel feel in-person. This one had the most troublesome formula (chunky due to all the glitters and a thicker base), and I considered thinning it for application. Matte glitter crellies have quite a unique, retro feel, don’t you think?
2 coats + top coat
Goldfish Lagoon
Goldfish Lagoon features a light orange crelly base with various matte and metallic glitters. I’m not the biggest fan of the dominant color pairing here, but the polish has a fantastic formula that builds well. The glitters show through the layers better in real life than they photograph here.
2 coats + top coat
Sea Hag
Sea Hag features a dusty grey-blue base with various matte glitters and a blue glass-fleck shimmer. This one surprised me with how pretty it is on the nails! It has a very under-the-sea feel, where the blue glitters feel like bubbles and the smaller green glitters are like seaweed bits. Much cuter than I anticipated! This one also has a lovely smooth formula that was easy to work with.
2 coats + top coat
Tropical Itch
Rounding out the collection is the only sparkly shade! Tropical Itch features a green scattered holographic base loaded with blue/violet shifting iridescent microglitters. This is the shade of the collection that is most comfortable to me. I love how complex the resulting effect is. The formula is great as well.
2 coats + top coat
My favorite shades of this collection are definitely the last two, Sea Hag and Tropical Itch.
The Tropical Vol. 3 Collection releases July 17 at 7pm Central time.
