9 polishes

The June 2020 PPU shop once again brings us polishes inspired by alcoholic (or not) concoctions! The July 2017 PPU shop also had this theme.

Bee’s Knees: Skooma

BKL was inspired by the illegal potion from the Elder Scrolls games. Skooma is a sheer purple base with blue/purple shifting shimmer. The shimmer is so strong and glowy.

Cupcake: Pink Lemonade

Cupcake was inspired by the drink of the same name. Pink Lemonade features a cool-toned pink base filled with red/green shifting shimmer. This is bright and summery and cheery!

Ethereal: Dragon Drink

swatch ethereal dragon drink 2

Ethereal was inspired by the Starbucks drink of the same name. Dragon Drink features a bright orchid-toned purplish-pink packed with red/green shifting iridescent flakes. This shade is impossible to photograph, complicated by the fact it is also a little neon as well. It is showing up like a hot pink on my phone screen, but it is more complex than a hot pink. It has a slight purple tone that tones down the overt girly-ness of hot pink. The red flakes pull it back into a pink zone.

Femme Fatale: Unicorn Lemonade

swatch ff unicorn lemonade 1

Unicorn Lemonade features a thermal jelly base that transitions between a rich warm dark purple when cold and a sheer blue-violet when warm. The states are distinctly different, but the transition is quite subtle. I admit I used water to shoot these photos. I’ve never used any external help to get thermals to transition, but I had a really hard time showing the difference otherwise. There definitely is a difference between the states, but you might not see a gradient on your nails. The base is filled with red/green UCC flakes, red/green iridescent flakes, and ruby microflakes. So complex and fiery. I haven’t been the biggest fan of polishes that mix UCC and iridescent flakes, but I really love the mix in this polish.

Great Lakes: Coladas Are Calling and I Must Go

swatch gll coladas are calling and I must go 2

GLL was inspired by piรฑa coladas, specifically a sunset colada. Coladas Are Calling and I Must Go has a pink-toned red base filled with red/green shifting shimmer and a sprinkling of holo microflake. The formula is so smooth and lovely to work with, so much so that this polish can be worn beautifully in both two or three coats. Two coats gives a pinker base, three coats gives a redder base. I show both–two coats on second and fourth, three coats on first and third fingers. This polish self-levels so beautifully and is an utter pleasure to apply.

Moo Moo’s Signatures: The Red Smoke

The Red Smoke features a deep red base with red/green shifting shimmer and pink/red iridescent flakes. This is such a rich shade. It’s mostly red, although the iridescent flakes sometimes give a pop of pink.

Pahlish: Champagne Float

swatch pahlish champagne float 2

Champagne Float features a light pink base filled with pink shimmer, iridescent flakes, and gold flakes. Perfect interpretation of a pink bubbly, no? I opted for two coats for a lighter look that shows a bit of VNL, but you could definitely do three coats for a more solid, opaque look.

Scofflaw: Gray Goose

swatch scofflaw gray goose 1

Lastly, Gray Goose features a light grey base with black/gunmetal flecks, along with matte and metallic mint microglitters. The macro really makes those specks pop, but to the naked eye this is a neutral base with lots of visual interest. I like how the metallic microglitters reflect the light.

2 coats covers well, but it produces a lighter and airier result. I opted for 3 coats for perfect coverage.
